1459. Childhood in Germany
Born in Nuremberg, in the middle of a rich family of merchants from Bohemia.
1485. First stay in Portugal
After living eight years in Belgium, dedicated to the textile trade, he arrives in Lisbon, then the epicenter of maritime exploration.
1486. The discovery of Africa
Martin was already part of the Portuguese explorers, when he travels to the kingdom of Benin, in the Gulf of Guinea, to know about pepper.
1492. The first world globe
Two years earlier, Martin had returned to Nuremberg to begin the design of the globe. He finished it months before Columbus's first trip to America.
1507. He dies, without tasting Peru
In 1494, he moved to Faial, one of the nine Azores islands. Then leave commerce and navigation. He died in 1507 without trying Peru.
